Matthew Tift

Dr. Matthew Tift is a lead engineer at Lullabot, contributing to projects for organizations such as UMass Amherst and Georgia Public Broadcasting. He is also an accomplished speaker, educator, and Twin Cities Drupal Camp organizer. As a co-maintainer of the Drupal 8 configuration system, Matthew migrated key public media modules to Drupal 8, including the NPR and PBS Media Manager modules. Additionally, Matthew played a pivotal role in organizing the effort for Olivero, which debuted with the release of Drupal 9.

From a young age, Matthew was a coder and violinist. He performed Steve Reich's Violin Phase with his violin and computer for his undergraduate senior violin recital. He then started building websites professionally and earned a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Matthew is passionate about education and mental health. He teaches yoga and facilitates Lullabot's Mental Health Working Group. Matthew is a mental health subject matter expert for Drupal’s Community Health Team and has co-organized a Burnout and Mental Health in Open Source session for GitHub's Maintainer Month.

Matthew lives near Minneapolis, where he enjoys cycling, meditation, yoga, and playing string quartets with his wife and two children.
